In this edition of Showroom Talk, we’ve invited one of our favorite sales reps, Miki Kodama, to share her insights. Miki Kodama is with Desousa Hughes, our San Francisco rep. Read on to learn more about Miki…

1. How did you get involved in home decor?

I studied textile design in the U.S.. After pursuing a career in fashion, I landed a job at a residential interior design firm. During the recession, my mentor who is in the home linens industry introduced me to custom linens and soft goods design.

2. What is the favorite part of your job as a sales associate?

At Desousa Hughes, we carry more than 2000 textiles in our showroom and these are all different styles, weaving, printing techniques and qualities. It is very exciting when serendipity leads our clients to find the most suitable ‘One’ for their project.

3. What is the most interesting item in the showroom?

 All of them! Hahaha

Recently, along with the seemakrish studio, we created patchwork decor pillows. Our concept is to assist designers in their need to find soft goods at the end of their design process, as finishing touches for their projects. I am excited to introduce something special, unique and little different to our clients.

4. What can’t you live without?

I have so many things!!! Let me narrow it down!

Pen and paper… I love doodling! 

5. What do you do for fun?

Playing music. I am in a punk rock band since I was a teenager.

6. What is your personal aesthetic and decoration style?

Art Deco inspired. Cool tone space with bold accent color or pattern.  

7. Which designer (any industry) would you like to meet?

Unfortunately, he  passed away already- Alexander McQueen. 

… and Yayoi Kusama (she is still alive! ) 

8. If you weren’t working in Sales what would you do?

My own small tea salon…. designing bandanas and a space that people can share their creativity. For night, playing live music. It’s my dream.

9. What seemakrish samples get requested the most at DeSousa Hughes?

I think patterns- Bandra, Juhu and Chowpatty

10. What is your favorite seemakrish textile or wallcovering?

This is another tough question… I love Pacific, I am a big fun of seemakrish’s 3 dimensional design. 

And also I love all the patterns in the Bay Area collection: Sonoma, Calistoga, Petaluma.. very well thought out collection in beautiful color palettes.
