UNCOMMON BOSTON

A vibrant collection inspired by the urban landscape and storied architecture of the city of Boston.

A mix of hand block prints and woven outdoor textiles.
Defined by upbeat and modern graphic patterns in bold colors.

A collection of 4 patterns.

Our favorite places in Boston, the city where it all started for us.

EAT

City Feed and Supply – My favorite sandwich place! Located in Jamaica Plain. Their unique and creative combinations for sandwiches sets them apart. I love their farmer’s lunch sandwich, with apples, pickled green tomatoes and sharp cheddar cheese, what’s not to love! This specialty grocer has all the local goods, from cheese to local farm veggies.

Ana’s Taqueria – I have been an Ana’s regular since they opened in 1995! They can now be found in 8 locations. Fast, delicious food. It’s very simple Mexican food. Their guacamole and chips are a must, as well as their quesadilla (it’s magical). I visit every time I head back to Boston.

SEE

Fenway Park – I love this ballpark! Not only as a RedSox fan, but as someone who enjoys history. This is the oldest ballpark in the country! The park has been expanded and renovated more than a few times, creating some pretty unusual features in the park, like the giant wall in left field, called the Green Monster.

The deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum – Located 20 miles from Boston, this inspiring outdoor Museum is one of my favorites to visit. Plan for an all day trip to see the gardens and then the unique exhibits inside the museum. You get to experience art and nature at the same time, how often does one get to do that?

An epic shot of the ballpark from Hannah’s last visit!

SHOP

Brookline Booksmith – One of the best bookstores in the country! They have a super knowledgeable staff, and a fun little journal and card section. Amazing authors have done book signings here, and they have a used book section in the basement for those who like to find a bargain.

Mint Julep – Fun little boutique with two locations in Brookline and Cambridge. It’s a great place to pick up unique gifts for friends. They have a wonderful selection of boutique brands that allow anyone to find something that will fit their style. An ever rotating selection  of jeans, jewelry, and accessories made me a regular client.

EAT

Myers and Chang – This Asian restaurant helmed by Joanne Chang (of Flour bakery fame) is one of my faves, in a city that is not typically known for its Asian food offerings. The fact that it is in the South End, a quick walk from my former studio, meant that it was a go-to spot for many a ‘working lunch’.

Saltie Girl – For true New England classics like clam chowder and fried seafood coupled with an awesome raw bar and fresh local salads. All in proximity to Newbury street, makes it a great place to stop while shopping.

Sofra Bakery – A menu that is a mix of Turkish, Lebanese and Greek flavors and consisting of both savory and sweet bites, each one delectable and making it worth the trip to Cambridge.

SEE

Isabella Stewart Garden Museum – Modeled after a Venetian palazzo, with an indoor courtyard, it was the former home of famed art collector, Isabella Stewart Gardener and houses her impressive art collection, including Rembrandt, Degas and Sargent. I always enjoy the peacefulness and quirkiness of the space.

Freedom Trail – A 2.5-mile walk, that passes 16 historic sights- churches, meeting houses, etc- including Paul Revere’s house, Old North Church and others that are historic markers of the American revolution. I enjoy walking through this and observing the architecture of the times, with the brick and stone facades, narrow doorways and telling of the history of that time period.

The Esplanade – The Esplanade along the Charles River is a favorite of mine to have quick access to nature in the city. Great place for a run or a walk with fabulous views of Cambridge and M.I.T. from the Boston side and the Boston skyline from the Cambridge side.

SHOP

Lekker – Amazing lifestyle store founded by Natalie and Curt Carpenter, carries mid-century classics as well as European design- a nod to Natalie’s Dutch roots. Founded and trailblazers in the South End, I’ve heard they’ve recently expanded to a larger location and remain in the South End.

Patch NYC – Founded by Don Carney and John Ross, Patch NYC is a hidden design gem. Carrying home goods and vintage items curated by the duo, including art and objects in Don’s signature illustrative style. A modern twist on vintage style and located at 46 Waltham street in the South End- which is also the building where we founded our company!

Black Ink – With 2 locations, in Beacon Hill and Brattle street, Cambridge, Black Ink – also known as the ‘Museum of Useful Things’, carries beautiful, functional items. A sort of carefully curated general store with well-designed items. Their idiosyncratic assortment varies from rubber stamps, well designed paper clips, canvas hampers, beautiful stationery and the list goes on. Always a stop when looking for a fun gift or greeting card.
