A Talk With Our Favorite Designers

Last month, we began our “A Talk with Our Favorite Designers” series where we feature our favorite interior designers and their projects through a set of 10 questions. Our second guest in these series is Christine Lane from Christine Lane Interiors, who is located just steps away from our studio!

ChristineLaneInt-edited1 1. What was your journey to becoming an interior designer?

I have always been interested in my surroundings and color. It was a gradual progression to a profession in interior design.  After attending the Museum School of Fine Arts, I painted for few years. During this time, I began working in textile design and started taking classes at the Boston Architectural College. I did an internship with Jane Lucas Interiors for two years and then went out on my own.

2. A happy home to you is…?

A home filled with people you love and one that represents who you are. A home where you can enjoy and share things gathered through traveling and throughout your life — collections, photos, furniture, textiles. I particularly enjoy hunting for artists and artwork that reflect my clients’ spirit.

3. What’s in your toolkit?

A measuring tape, my iPhone and iPad, and the architectural plans and floor plans of the space I am presenting. I always keep a paint fan deck in my glove compartment.

4. How would you describe your own design aesthetic/style?

My design aesthetic is clean, comfortable, edited and beautiful. I try to use something unexpected and surprising in my work along with that simplicity. A good architect is key, and I have enjoyed working in spaces created by Claudia Noury-Ello.

5. What are your three “must haves” in a space?

Good design, lighting and color.

6. What does color mean to you in a space?

Color is the most important element in my design. It is the base for everything else in the space and sets the mood and tone of the room.

7. What has been your favorite project so far?

I have enjoyed working on seaside projects most of all — the Bahamas, Martha’s Vineyard, and Gloucester to name a few.

8. What is your dream project?

A dream project for me includes a great client who appreciates my aesthetic, and also allows me to consider their space as a whole. My best work has always been spaces/homes where I have a chance to design the big picture and work towards it, marrying artwork with furniture, floor coverings, color, etc.

9. How do you like to use textiles in a space?

I love the process of selecting textiles, whether for function or adding drama and color to a room. The textures, color and patterns give the room expression and drama.

10. What is your favorite Seema Krish textile?

Juhu – Badal Gray, and I love the new line coming out also.

Here are some photos from Christine’s work in the Bahamas (with Seema Krish fabrics used: Breach Candy Mughal Blue, Juhu Badal Gray and Chowpatty Anjeer Lilac)!
